We build language and multimodal (speech and vision) technology that works for low-resource and underrepresented languages, across Africa, South & South-East Asia, and the Indigenous Americas. Based at McGill University and Mila in Montréal.

About the group

Closing the gap between high- and low-resource languages.

Most of the world's 7,000+ languages are invisible to modern AI. We change that, designing models, datasets and evaluation that put underrepresented languages and their communities first.

Led by Prof. David Ifeoluwa Adelani, we work on multilingual NLP, speech processing, vision-language models, post-training and AI safety, often hand in hand with native speakers and grassroots networks such as Masakhane.
